About Community Builders

Programs and Locations

Best Practice Housing - Vancouver
Community Builders coordinates Best Practice Housing management services for four privately owned rooming housing in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside: Dodson Rooms on Hastings, Jubilee Rooms on Main (North and South) and Powell Rooms on Powell.

In these locations the society provides the following services for 175 tenants that live in the single room occupancy buildings; tenant support, administration and bookkeeping, human resources and job training, pest control and building maintenance, breakfast and community kitchen programs, volunteer cleaning and painting services.

Compassionate Adoption - Vancouver and Hope, BC
Community Builders supports the compassionate adoption of at-risk infants, in addition to housing and counselling support for birth mothers. This endeavour is modelled by two society directors in Vancouver and Hope, BC.

The society has assisted in the placement of seven infants into caring families with the support of the British Columbia Ministry of Children and Family Development, and has provided housing services to the same number of at-risk mothers.

Micro Credit - East and Southern Africa
Community Builders models relationally-based Micro Credit endeavours in Kenya, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The society assists works directly with eight families and is represented in thirteen African neighbourhoods. Successful "pay it forward" micro credit loans have enabled self-sufficiency through the following small business development projects: small pig and dairy farms, two acre farm fertilizer programs, small pharmacies and kiosks, home-based tayloring initiatives and an internet café and a diesel powered village grinding mill.
