Working from the worksite, the Resident Support Worker provides assistance and support to residents in their living environment, promoting independence, self-responsibility, and healthy lifestyle choices. This role falls under the direction of the Site Manager and involves the following responsibilities:
- Assist with resident support by identifying potential problems and reporting difficulties to the Building Coordinator and Management.
- Recognize, analyze, and handle potential emergency situations, ensuring the safety of residents and the public in cases of aggressive behavior.
- Observe residents and assess potential emergency situations, developing short-term strategies to de-escalate challenging behaviors.
- Offer supportive feedback and behavior management to assist residents in developing physical, social, emotional, and life skills, such as personal hygiene, housekeeping, meal planning, and interpersonal skills.
- Provide medication support in accordance with established policy.
- Support meal programs according to established policy.
- Conduct rounds every 30 minutes to maintain the safety and security of the housing site, addressing any issues found.
- Complete and maintain records and documentation in the Community Builders database, including resident interactions, progress reports, and daily logs.
- Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of programs and residence by completing janitorial and maintenance tasks as directed.
- Assist with monthly room checks if required.
- Conduct wellness checks.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education, Training & Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year post-secondary education.
- One year of recent related work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Certificates in Narcan Training, First Aid, and NVCI.
- Criminal record check.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to work in a harm reduction environment, including observed consumption areas, and familiarity with harm reduction principles.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision, exercise initiative, and good judgment.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
- Observational skills to recognize changes in clients.
- Capacity to establish and maintain rapport with clients, staff, management, and collateral service providers.

Education, Training & Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year post-secondary education.
- One year of recent related work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Certificates in Narcan Training, First Aid, and NVCI.
- Successful Criminal record check.
