I joined the board because I could see the impact that Community Builders had in the community and its commitment to meaningful service and outreach. As a board, we have collaborated on strategic and thoughtful decisions and planning to best reach the population we aim to support.

The Indigenous Wellness Program at Community Builders helps build a safe place for the Indigenous community. I am Two Spirit, a big drum keeper and lead singer, and a knowledge keeper. Being able to sing for the people and be a part of healing through culture and song brings me a sense of pride and joy.

Mental health is still so stigmatized, but when we take time to listen, to educate and to build trust, we start to bridge the gap between health care and housing. The community health approach helps people access immediate care while also connecting them to the broader system, which creates stability and a sense of hope for those facing housing insecurity.

Pavneet, Site Coordinator
For me, motivation comes from the chance to develop meaningful relationships with residents and coworkers. It feels amazing to be part of a team that is supportive, collaborative, and committed to achieving great things together. Where others see a building, we create belonging.

One of the best parts of living at Dodson is that staff take a sincere interest in the tenants. They also go out of their way to help out by arranging all kinds of donations, free haircuts, special meals as well as the regular breakfasts and dinners. Dodson is indeed one of the better housing sites in the DTES.
