The idea for Patricia’s Helping Hands came out of a simple but powerful realization: many residents arrive at our sites with very little. Sometimes nothing at all. A fire, a sudden move or just the grind of poverty can leave someone without warm clothes, hygiene supplies or even the basics to feel human. Patricia’s Helping Hands was created to respond to that need with dignity, creativity and heart.
The team at Patricia transformed a spare storage room into a warm, well-organized donation space stocked with clothing, blankets, toiletries and other essentials. But it’s not just a room full of supplies. It’s a space that helps people feel welcome, respected and cared for. Staff from across our housing sites can request items to support a resident on their first day in housing, or someone in crisis, or a neighbour heading into the colder months without a jacket.
Beyond meeting basic needs, the project has also become a source of celebration and confidence. The team has used donations to build birthday gift bags, assemble self-care kits and offer makeovers for residents before special outings. Thanks to donated beauty products and the generous hands-on support of staff, residents have received hair dyeing, eyebrow grooming and makeup sessions. These small moments remind people that they matter and that they deserve to feel good in their skin.
Patricia’s Helping Hands wouldn’t exist without the care and effort of the staff who made it happen. Special thanks to Kanchana, Uchechi, Asha and Dema, who poured hours into sorting donations, cleaning and setting up the space and building something truly meaningful. The entire Patricia team stepped up, contributing time and energy to create something that reflects the heart of their community.
Patricia’s Helping Hands is a reflection of what care can look like when people work together with intention and kindness. It stands for dignity, access and the belief that everyone deserves to feel supported in their home.
